Quantum2025 – 100 Years of quantum is just the beginning

The year 2025 marks a significant milestone in the history of quantum science, as it commemorates 100 years since the foundational development of quantum mechanics. To honor this achievement, UNESCO has designated 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ).

The official launch of the IYQ took place in Paris on February 4 – 5, 2025. UNESCO, together with international representatives from the fields of science, politics, and industry, hosted a grand opening event at the UNESCO headquarters to kick off a year filled with activities aimed at raising public awareness and promoting advancements in quantum research.

Germany is actively engaged in quantum science and technology research and marked the occasion with a national kickoff event on January 14, 2025, coinciding with the 180th anniversary of the German Physical Society (DPG). In addition to the kickoff event, the DPG is promoting and organizing various quantum-related events throughout the year, which can be found at quantum2025.de

As an active participant in the Quantum2025, the FAU LMQ will be organizing and promoting various events throughout the year. By doing so, we aim to enhance visibility and collaboration within the quantum science community at FAU. We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
