For this FAU LMQ People Spotlight, we interviewed our member Roland Nagy. He is head of the Institute for Applied Quantum Technologies at the Department of Electrical Engineering at FAU since June 2023.
What is your research topic?
I’m working on spin based quantum technology applications.
How is your research linked to the research foci of the FAU LMQ?
The research field of quantum technologies is a core element of the FAU LMQ. Therefore, fits my research direction perfectly within the FAU LMQ.
Why exactly this topic/these topics?
We are using as quantum systems color centers within silicon carbide and diamond. Color centers are excellent quantum systems for quantum applications. We are utilizing these properties to entangle multiple color centers in the field of quantum communication or use them as ultra-sensitive quantum sensors in the field of quantum sensing.
Who in the Profile Center do you hope to collaborate with in the future?
Heiko Weber, Michael Hartmann, Christoper Eicher and so on …
When I am not working as a scientist, then …
I’m riding my race bike.
Do you have a secret talent?
I’m an optimist.
What does a typical day in your working life look like?
My typical day looks like below:
E-Mail – Meetings – E-Mail – Writing a Proposal – Meetings – E-Mails
Where do you see the FAU LMQ in 5 or 10 years?
FAU LMQ will be known as a leading research profile center!
